Student ID Cards

Your Student ID card functions as your Library cardStudent Value Meal Plan or Dining Dollars card, to receive a discounted bus pass, access the Gymnasium and for printing. You can get your Student ID card during normal Library hours on a drop in basis up to 30 minutes prior to closing time. Bring two pieces of ID and your student number.

Research Help

Need help getting started with your research?  Feeling overwhelmed by information?  Want an automatically-generated bibliography?  We can help you start and organize your research.  Drop by the reference desk or email reference@viu.ca to get help or set up a private individual or group appointment with a librarian.  We also offer drop-in classes on a variety of topics.

The library has physical and e-books, CDs, DVDs, equipment and much more for loan.  Checking out resources is free with a valid student card.

The VIU Students’ Union exists to provide service, represent students and advocate on their behalf, and to enhance campus life.

Students’ Union events promote social interactions among the student body and provide inexpensive options for extra-curricular activities.  Services of the Students’ Union are run by students, for students, and are designed to provide members of the student body significant savings on a range of items, from textbooks to bus passes.  Advocacy work of the Students’ Union ranges from holding large, public campaigns to make education more affordable to helping individual students with grade appeals.  Fees collected by the Students’ Union also cover funding to campus clubs, the student newspaper (the Navigator) and the student radio station (CHLY 101.7).

The Students’ Union sponsors a range of clubs covering a variety of topics including political activism, academic engagement, social networking and professional development. Office of the Student Advocate

When students encounter a concern with a course, program or rule of the University, they can approach the Students’ Union’s Student Advocate for assistance. The Student Advocate assists students navigate the university’s policies and rules and helps students file formal or informal appeals. Though the Students’ Union does not directly represent students in university proceedings, the Student Advocate will attend meetings with students and ensure that students are armed with the necessary information needed to represent themselves. Contact the Student Advocate at advocate@viusu.ca, or visit the Students’ Union Office to make an appointment.

Visit the Students’ Union office to access university rate bus passes and tickets, which are exclusively sold by the Students’ Union. Savings on university rate passes can amount to nearly 30% off the regular adult price.
