Storm the Shore with ResTide & the Mariners at Westwood Lake | 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Spend the afternoon with the ResTide crew and the Mariners Athletics! All students are welcome to join in on a fun-filled afternoon spent at Westwood Lake (one of Nanaimo’s best loved parks). A shuttle bus will be transporting students back and forth from campus to Westwood Lake all afternoon, the first bus will be leaving Student Residences at 12:45pm.  You will have an opportunity to swim in the lake, test out your kayaking and paddle boarding skills, or just relax on the sand and enjoy the afternoon!  Note: There will be a hydration and healthy snack station - bring a water bottle!
Visit Newcastle Island (Saysutshun) with International Education! | 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Join International Education in exploring one of Nanaimo’s most beautiful parks! Check out the island’s trails and beaches as well as learn a little bit about its history. There will be return transportation from VIU to downtown as well as the ferry to the island. At around 12 PM we will stop for a picnic lunch so please pack some food and water - there is also a small cafe on the island that is cash only. Wear comfortable shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Pack a small backpack of items you may need. Meet in main reception area of Building 255 before 9:00am. Cost per student is $5
Geocaching on campus | 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm
How many and which ones you find are up to you! You will need to use the Google Maps app on your cell phone to locate these caches. Just plug in the coordinates (exactly how you see them below) and your phone will lead you to the area the cache is located! The Student Ambassadors will be in the Quad on September 1 from 12:00pm - 5:00pm to help you!
Geocaching runs Friday, September 1st at noon to Thursday September 8th at noon. Use common sense, stay safe! 
 When you find a cache stamp your passport, sign the log and put it back where you found it! Make sure to bring your passport to the Student Ambassador tent during Weeks of Welcome to get entered into the draw! For every stamp you get, you’ll be entered into the draw for a $250 Campus Store Gift Card.
