RockVIU is looking for an energetic, welcoming and enthusiastic team of RockVIU volunteers to help kick off the school year and create an unforgettable first impression for new students! If you’re passionate about building community, love meeting new people and want to play a key role in shaping our students' experience, we want you on our team.

We need support for the following events:

Welcome ceremony

The Welcome Ceremony is the official kickoff to the day and takes place in the gym. It’s designed to welcome new students to VIU with energy, excitement and school spirit. 

Volunteers arrive at 8 am to assist with setup and preparations before students arrive. As students arrive, you’ll help welcome them, support the check-in process and guide them to their designated seating areas by faculty. After the ceremony, you’ll also help direct faculty groups and support a smooth transition as RockVIU volunteers lead students to their Faculty Session locations. Some volunteers may also assist with quick takedown and cleanup once the ceremony wraps up.

Connect Fair

The Connect Fair & Community Corner is where students can explore campus life in a fun, informal setting. It’s an opportunity for them to enjoy games, food and snacks while connecting with student services, meeting community partners and learning about the many opportunities available at VIU.

There are three ways you can help:

• Set up (8 am to 12 pm): Assist with preparing the space by setting up tables, signage, activity stations and vendor areas to ensure everything is ready before students arrive.
• Event support (12 to 4 pm): Help create a welcoming and engaging atmosphere by greeting students, answering questions, supporting activity stations and assisting vendors or staff as needed.
• Take down (4 to 6 pm): Support the wrap-up by helping dismantle booths, pack up materials and clean the space efficiently.

Your support helps ensure the event runs smoothly and creates a positive, memorable experience for everyone attending.

Welcome Week Help Desks

We are also bringing back the Welcome Week Help Desks to make navigating the campus and finding information easier for everyone! We want to ensure students feel supported during the RockVIU week and the first week of classes. 

There will be two different Help Desk stations on campus: 

• RBC Plaza 
• Library Quad
